Design & Development
The UVA Foundation’s Real Estate Design and Development team directs all processes contributing to the physical master planning, entitlements, design and construction of real property for the benefit of the University of Virginia.
The developed areas include architectural qualities and details reminiscent of Jefferson’s own designs. Flexible, yet elegantly defined design guidelines will help to assure the fulfillment of this forward-looking vision. The nationally acclaimed land-planning firm of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company and the Charlottesville firm of Mitchell/Matthews Architects teamed to gather the best ideas from developments throughout the country and then have applied them to this project. While 3.7 million square feet have been allotted for development, at least 200 of the 562 acres will remain pristine and undeveloped, thus retaining a pleasing and refreshing rural environment.
