The Art of Networking Interactive Reception
Remember your first few times attending a networking event or a career-related fair? If you are like most of us, it was a time of uncertainty – “What do I say?” – and even something like a handshake (too strong? too wimpy?) can be nerve-wracking.
We’d like to invite you to participate in a networking event to help UVa graduate students and post-doctoral fellows practice their networking skills as you share insights on your company, your career, your major and your insights. You’re also welcome to provide gentle feedback on their networking abilities.
We hope you will take the opportunity to meet potential future candidates while paying it forward. RSVP today to email@example.com.

Help UVa graduate students and post-doctoral fellows from across the University, gain experience and self-confidence at an interactive career reception. (Engineering, Sciences, IT and Humanities students are the primary student populations.)
Just before the reception starts, the students will finish a networking workshop and exit from it directly into the reception. They will have the immediate opportunity to practice what they learned with you – and you are invited to provide them with tactful feedback and advice, as well as engaging with them on career and other networking topics.
Your company’s business attire is appropriate for this event. The actual reception runs from 4:45-6:00 pm; please arrive by 4:30 for a quick briefing on the event and tips on providing feedback.
Please call or email Emily Bardeen if you have any questions. Your attendance makes all the difference to the success of this event — please RSVP today! Thank you.
