The University of Virginia Foundation proudly announces, with the support of Charlottesville Running Company, that it will host its 2nd annual 5K race in the University of Virginia Research Park. The 4 the Wounded 5k will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012, and will benefit Wounded Warrior Project.

Last year’s inaugural race was a huge success raising $76,500 for Wounded Warrior Project. Nearly 900 runners and walkers participated in the on and off-road event. Family members and many community supporters including the fire department and National Guard were there to set the stage and cheer the racers on.

Setting the pace for corporate sponsorships, Presidential sponsor ACAC Fitness and Wellness Center and leading sponsor Wal-Mart have returned for the 2012 event. A fundraising goal of $100,000 has been set by the organizing committee. Numerous sponsorship opportunities are available.

Race day events will include an all-terrain (on/off road) 5K, kids fun run, post-race expo featuring technologies developed by Charlottesville area companies that support soldier safety in theatre, involvement from the National Ground Intelligence Center, National Guard, and WWP. As many as 1,500 racers are anticipated this year. The race is open to the entire community. Online race registration opens tomorrow – February 22, 2012.
